FAQs
Q: When will more airframes be available on the platform?
A: Current airframes include the DJI Mavic Mini 2 (Not the SE version), the mini 3 & the mini 3 pro. We intend to add the Mini 4 and 4 pro when the SDK is made available by DJI. And may consider adding other airframes that fit the purpose & vision of the platform.
Q: When will I be able to fly Spexigons in my area?
A: Spexigons will be opened strategically in different markets based on a number of factors including both drone and crypto regulations as well as demand for data, stay tuned to announcements for more on the roll out.
Q: When will the Spexi token launch?
A: Spexi intends to distribute SPEXI tokens at some point in the future, pending regulatory approval or clarity. We hope to reward network contributors in general proportion to their impact and contribution. Reputation Points (RPs) are intended to play a role in this.
In the meantime, Spexi will continue to develop incentive models to reward pilots for their successful data capture. Due to the current regulatory environment in our home jurisdiction and other jurisdictions in which our pilots are (or will be) based, it is possible that a compliant SPEXI token distribution is months to years away in certain jurisdictions and potentially impossible in other jurisdictions.
DISCLAIMER: Although it is the intention of Spexi to distribute SPEXI tokens to users with Reputation Points, it may not be legally possible to do so for users that reside in more regulatory restrictive jurisdictions. Spexi Geospatial Inc., and Spexi, do not guarantee that Reputation Points will make every user eligible for tokens.
Q: I fly a different drone, can I fly Spexigons?
A: Based on a number of market & regulatory factors the micro drones will be the first drones compatible with the platform. Additional drones may be integrated in the future but there is currently no specified order or timeline.
Q: Will the Mini 2 SE work on the platform?
A: No. We are currently assessing the Mini 2 SE and may require the release of the SDK from DJI.
Q: Can I fly with a larger Mavic series drone?
A: No, currently only the Mini 2, Mini 3 & Mini 3 Pro are compatible with Spexi.
Q: Why are you only working with Micro Drones?
A: Major factors for selecting micro drones include availability, cost, regulations, & noise ie. public perception.
Q: Will you only accept DJI drones?
A: No, we are actively seeking additional hardware partners, particularly in the micro drone category. We are building the platform itself to be brand agnostic.
Q: What built in safety features will the Spexi app have to protect the drone in case of inclement wind/weather?
A: While the Spexi App autonomously controls the drones flight path it is the responsibility of the pilot in command to verify safe flight conditions as well as appropriate weather & lighting conditions for quality data collection. But don't worry, we're building features like terrain following and no fly zones right into the app.
Q: How long does it take to fly a Spexigon?
A: Flight times include a number of variables including launch/land locations, wind, etc. The Spexi dev team is working hard to make sure each Spexigon will be flown as efficiently as possible regardless of location or conditions. We’re seeing success flying two Spexigons with DJI mini 2 (per battery) and three Spexigons with the Mini 3.
Q: Does the app need internet to operate while out in the field?
A: Yes, the app currently requires either cell service, wifi or a wireless hotspot in order to load & manage Spexigons.
Q: Once an area is captured, will it be unavailable for others to capture?
A: Yes, if an area has been captured, you'll need to move to an are that has not been collected. Spexigons will come up for "recapture" based on activity and value of new data. So essentially they will have refresh rates. If there is lots of activity (imagine a new development or ongoing construction) then refresh rates might be quite high. Areas with less change will renew less often. If you want to fly regularly, you will need to move around.
Q: Can I fly my drone any time of day or night?
A: No. The Spexi app uses lighting & sun angle calculations to assess start & finish times for each day. The app automatically blocks pilots from flying outside of the approved hours.
Q: Does the Spexi app upload data automatically or is it a manual process?
A: The app does not upload data directly from the mobile device. Once a flight is complete, you must then upload the imagery from the web app on desktop by inserting the SD card from your drone or connecting your drone directly to the computer.
Q: After completing the mission on the app, does the app do the image uploading and stitching?
A: The Spexi mobile app automates drone flight to standardize the capture process. Captured images are stored on the micro SD card which is onboard the drone. We are working on, and testing a few different workflows to get the imagery and its metadata (used for proof of capture, processing and indexing) off the drone and into the Spexi Network from the mobile app. Uploading is currently a manual process.
Q: Do pilots transfer the high res images from the drone or are they recorded on the phone?
A: Currently, pilots are required to upload captured imagery into the Spexi web app once back at home after a day of flying. This is a very simple drag and drop process.
Q: When does the upload take place, can it be done later while on wifi?
A: Currently, pilots are required to upload captured imagery into the Spexi web app once back at home after a day of flying (over wifi). This is a very simple drag and drop process.
Q: What will the value of each Spexigon be at public launch?
A: The Spexi utility token (SPEXI) is proposed to be the Spexi Network’s native token used to reward pilots when they fly missions to collect imagery. We are not able to comment on anything related to price at this time.
Q: How much will I make per Spexigon?
A: Value for Spexigons will vary based on location, demand, refresh rate and other factors. While flying your drone should be engaging & fun, we are also designing the system to make it worth while for pilots to collect data.
Q: How will I turn my rewards into cash?
A: During the Alpha/Beta launches in Canada + USA, Spexi pilots will be rewarded in a combination of Canadian Dollars (Canada), U.S. Dollars (USA) & Points (Canada & USA). Future reward schedules remain TBD.
Q: What Blockchain will the Spexi Network be launching on?
A: Spexi plans to store and transact it's geospatial data on the Blockchain and is currently in the process of selecting the ideal infrastructure.
Q: Will the value be paid out as soon as I complete a Spexigon?
A: Payouts will happen after data has been uploaded and verified, and will likely be scheduled for routine distribution rather than immediately upon completion.
